All Good Things End

I’m formally announcing my departure from GSD Venture Studios.

I’m proud that we developed a venture community from “idea to 100+ portfolio companies”. Women or minority founders led 44% of the companies from emerging markets that included 45+ nations.

Just yesterday, a GSD portfolio company celebrated a $100m term sheet they received. Less than a year ago, they were a young company seeking a $10M valuation.

A few months ago, another company raised $30M, and there are more stories like these than I can count.

However, what’s most precious to me is the trust and relationships that I formed with our founders. Whether it be on my trips to places like Nigeria, South Africa, Finland and more or just burning the “midnight oil” together, it was a privilege to work with and learn from you all. I’ll continue to root for and support you (just ask).

GSD isn’t made up of just incredible founders but partners, advisors, mentors, investors, and corporations from around the world. You’re all some of the best in your craft, and I hope to stay connected and work with you in the future.

The best organizations survive when a Co-founder leaves, and GSD is no different. The team in place is battle-tested, hard-working, and will continue traveling the world looking for bold, resilient entrepreneurs ready to #GoGlobal.

I’m not sure what is next for me. However, I value each of you, and I am just an email or phone call away. Let’s keep in touch.

Until we meet again. Don’t ever forget what it takes to #GoGlobal.

Derek Distenfield, COO of GSD Venture Studios, signing out.
